Ever had the problem that you are photographing a subject in low light? This could be due to the time of day, or because the subject is in the shadows, and you have to adjust your shutter speed so low that the subject has moved and you have a blurred picture. This used to happen to me a lot especially when photographing birds and monkeys in the rainforest. The solution I came across was the Kirk Flash X-Tender. When you see the price and then get the kit you think it’s too expensive and you’ve just wasted your money. However when you actually use it in anger and see the difference it makes to your photos then you are converted. This piece of kit attaches to your speed light and extends the flash so that even from a distance you can light up the subject. I’m not sure to what distance it is 100% effective, but even when photographing monkeys at the top of the canopy I have found that it makes a difference. At closer range the outcome is amazing. The photos below show the difference between using the X Tender and not using it. I would definitely recommend it especially to people visiting the rainforest or other dark areas. The only place I’ve found in the UK that sells this is Warehouse Express. It’s priced at £37 and you can find it in the link below.
